I messed up AIME, do I get a chance?

I got a 121.5 on 2015AMC12A, and made the distinguished honor roll
but I **** up AIMEII, only got a 10, and this year’s cutoff for USAMO is darn high:229( 20 above average)

do you guys think my AMC/AIME stand out?

Your scores are very good and will help you. Unfortunately it’s hard to tell how much admissions officers care about the difference between a 220 and a 230 index. On the one hand the answer should be not much, on the other USAMO qualifier is much easier to verify than a high AIME score. But don’t worry too much… these are just tests after all, and probably other parts of your application will be much bigger factors.

It would definitely help, but I’m not too sure about standing out. I guess an example of a “standing out” AMC/AIME score would be this 5th grader’s 139.5/150 USAMO index. Yes, a 5th grader. Holy shit.

Don’t worry, those scores are very good even by MIT standards. Most people who got into MIT would not be able to qualify for USAMO. Getting scores like that usually requires lots of training.

Are you a junior? If so, don’t sweat it. MIT asks for AMC and AIME scores, and a 10 on the AIME will stand out, as it’s very high. Lol. maybe even consider writing your essay about it.

If you’re not a junior, then don’t worry at all. Do it next year!
