Hey guys. I have read a good bit about nicer colleges looking for nice scores on math exams like AMC 12. I found a website with past exams and took one and got 18/25 correct while abiding to the time guideline and calculator ban.
Is this score good enough to consider taking an AMC for my senior year?
18/25 corresponds to at least a 108.0, which is definitely a good score.
However, keep in mind that recent AMCs have tended to be harder - I have scored 130-140 on some older (~2005) AMC 12s, but only 110-115 on the real thing (most of it due to me sucking on #21-25).
Alright, thanks for the reply. Any idea how I can register?
From messing around, I can get about 95% of 1-15 and about 60% of 15-19 after jumping around on several tests. 20-25 also is a struggle for me. I think I’ve only managed to solve four problems in that section of the test.
I’ll also be taking AP Calc and AP Stat this year, so that might help me improve.
I thought your school does registration - check with them (e.g. ask your math teacher).
For me at least, AP Calc/Stats didn’t help me on the AMCs. The AMC/AIME/USAMO primarily cover math up to precalculus, but with a much wider variety of topics not often covered in regular HS curricula.
Most schools do, but I go to a private school and we have never offered it.
