I took the AMC 12 test without really preparing it, and I got a 60.0. That is in the top 50% rank and the national average score is 60.64.
I got 790 on the SAT Subject Test Math II, and I’ll probably get 800 before doing my application. Should I report the AMC score to Caltech and Stanford along with the Subject Test? Or it is counterproductive for me?
It’s counterproductive. Don’t report it.
No. Don’t report it. There will be applicants who scored over 100.
Below a 90 is probably not worth reporting. 100 qualifies for AIME, so anything close to that is respectable.
^Remember that it’s also sometimes possible to qualify for AIME with <100.
However, I doubt a 60 is worth reporting, since answering just five questions correct and leaving the rest blank gives a 60.
And definitely do not report a 37.5!
^ That’s why I suggested a rough cutoff of 90. A score of 100 automatically qualifies for AIME; so does a score in the top 5%. But I agree, if a score less than 90 qualified for AIME, it would probably be worth reporting. I believe 90 used to be the cutoff for “honorable mention”.
Ok makes sense
