Amc

Does MIT get the scores from our senior year AMCs, or do they not even care at this point? Just asking because the test is tomorrow...

if you do better than you have done in the past, go ahead and send it in...

i dont think they receive the scores form MAA, but on the MIT application, it does indeed ask for your AMC/AIME scores, if any. the admission people actually know about that test and know how big of an accomplishment it is to score high on it.

hmm... oh i didnt see that you are a senior. by the time your score is available (early march), MIT would probably have started their committees already. i dont think it would have mattered much in that stage.
but just to play it safe, you should email it in anyway as soon as you get the score.

Is a score of 124.5 on AMC and 7 on the AIME (2.5 points off USAMO index) good in the eyes of the admissions officers?

MIT will definitely have started selection by March -- I believe they intend to start selection next week or so.

I think that how your scores are viewed depends on where you come from (i.e., might be more important relative to others in your school, though I'm not 100% positive on this), but those scores look really good to me.

Yeah, I was thinking it was somewhere along those lines... I'm just upset because my school has never been active in tests like those in the past, as my calc. teacher put it today, "The only reason you're taking the amc tommorow is because our school couldn't return old tests for cash, so they gave us credit in the form of this year's test." Haha, but if the scores come in March then I guess it is pretty pointless...

If you get waitlisted and you did well you might send it in among other things.

What score on the AMC 12 do you think would generally be considered good in MIT's eyes?

??!! The test is tomorrow?? I didn't hear about it at all yet. Is there another date?

(I might have a snow day tomorrow anyway. =D)

this is TODAY -_-

you have another chance in 2 weeks

This is my 9th time taking AMC 10/12 ... first time no calculator
I miss my TI-89 =/
have fun and good luck on the AMC B!
You can find old tests on AoPS for practice!

"What score on the AMC 12 do you think would generally be considered good in MIT's eyes?"

I would say if you break 100 they would think you have pretty decent (MIT-level) math skills. They're not going to be impressed by a score of 100, though. I would say they would be really impressed with a score above 130.
These are just my opinions, but are based on what I know people got who got into MIT.

Of course, your score is weighted by your background. If you go to a place where everybody takes the exam, the expectations are a bit higher.

@collegealum314
Thanks for your answer. So 109.5 (which I think I got) would likely be average for MIT? (my school average is likely close to 60)

Anyone else wonder why they have nonintegral values on the test when they could just double the point values or just give 1 or 2 points for blanks?

This has been bothering me.
The question where we had to find the units digit of a number involving a given k....what did you guys get?
I know I put either 4 or 6, but I'm pretty sure I got 6 as my final answer.
It's been bothering me and I forogt the exact problem so I couldnt rework it with more time. I really need to know what this is. lol

@nickbuddy: I would say it would be about average among those that actually took the test. There are also people who didn't take the exam at MIT too, and probably some of those wouldn't have scored over 100. My feeling is that they'll look at a score of 109 and think that you're pretty solid at math and that math won't be a problem for you at MIT.

I'm assuming the scoring distribution isn't radically different from when I took it over 10 years ago, though.

uh, Gleasspty, given different time zones and schools and whatever, it's not a good idea to post that the day of the test. At least wait until tomorrow!

Wait... my school let's us keep the question booklet! (i am looking at it right now). Is anybody interested in discussing the test? Or, does anybody know which forum would be most appropriate to start an AMC answer's thread?

ridonkulous:
i dont think you are supposed to discuss them until tomorrow.
for details, visit forum on Art of Problem Solving

yeah, we're allowed to keep the problem booklet, but not discuss until tomorrow...
