I am often called crazy and dangerouse by civilians. They clain knives are only weapons. When ever i pull one out to cut somthing, people automaticly take a few steps back, as if I am going to stab them. But I am just going to open a box or container.

Why are Americas so sensitive to Knives as weapons, rather than tools? They really are just a tool are they not? also why are we so sensitive to Guns. In the 50's and 60's it was common to have the average college male to have at least a few knives and a few guns in his college dorm room. Their were no rules, forbidding it. School deans and teachers would reguarly have guys hung up in offices. When my father went to school in an urban enviorment, he had his shotgun in his dorm, not locked up or anything. Just like a baseball bat behind his bed.

America has some of the strictest knife laws around, but if one were to go to any European country,k their would be absolutly no laws regulating the size of the knife somebody can carry. Almost everybody carrys a knife. Even the Business man in London or Rome would have a gentleman'sknife in is jacket/sport coat pocket. It is not uncommon at all, every carries and uses knives as a tool on a daily basis. Imprisond criminals are even allowed their own knife for work throghout europe. They have it in their cells, and I am yet to hear of a incident of a CO(corrections officer) getting stabbed/slashed or killed.

Why are we so dahm sensitive to these things, a Knife is just a cutting tool. Used to make the job of the user easier. I open upwards of 100 boxes and and have to flatten those 100+ boxes everyday at work. The knife is a great tool.

Why is it precieved as such a weapon. Were almost any item could be used the same. Could I not stab you in the neck with a Screwdriver or hit you in the head with a Pipe wrench?

You can hurt people with practically anything, but I guess the reason people are so reluctant about these things is because of the high crime rate in the US. You're more likely to get stabbed or shot in America than in most other countries, which means that more objects must be outlawed. There have been a lot of gun accidents resulting in unnecessary deaths, and there've also been school shootings and such things. So it's a result of crime and such things.

Of course, strict regulations against all these things are just a bandaid against crime. They just cover it up and such. What they should really try to do is lower crime itself, by putting more money into educating kids in high crime areas, and trying to create better citizens in the first place. Only then can knives and guns be carried around without risk.

I've also had people reflexively back away from me whenever I pull a knife, so I've stopped.

Have you ever noticed that people don't back away from you if you use a razor blade to cut instead of a knife? I've used a razorblade for a while now, and everyone seems fine with that.

Do people notice that a razor blade is sharper than a pocket knife. As in it has a much thinner bevel. A razor blade can cut your face alot harder and faster than any pocket knife. I collect knives and am very skilled at sharpening them.

The Over all demintions of the blade, will contribute to its cutting ability.

I dont know how lehitimate this site is, but they seem to say Europe is worse than America in crime. Just not Murder.

Right, there's more petty theft in Europe, but way less violent crimes. That's why guns can tend to be a problem. Especially seeing a variety of accidental gunshot wounds/deaths explains why we no longer leave guns (at least working models) lying around.

I guess its kinda like nudity in europe. In the mojority of European media its common to see a womans breasts not covered, but we have that banned here I guess.

I don't like knives because I have the slight urge to stab someone with it (not intentionally.. just natural reaction thingee). or if someone's holding a knife, I'm scared that I'm actually going to put my head foward and pierce my eyeballs with it.. That's why I back away when I see one.
P.s: This is normal. I searched it up and even my psychology teacher said it's a natural thing for some people.
