DRab: Wanna join the rhetoric department? :D

You could do LInguistics R6 + Linguistics 55AC. R6 is a 2 unit "writing workshop" that counts as an R1B class, and 55AC is a 4 unit course that satisfies the AC requirement. (You can do the 55AC as Pass/No Pass if you like.)

Linguistics R6 sounds like a "real" English class in that it focuses on writing. You can get good English classes outside of the English department!

Oh yes, eiffelguy87. Rhetoric rocks my socks. But I do see good in the philosophhy department, too, so I'm either doulbing or major/minor (that's the plan, anyway). You know in Europe those two departments would be the "philosophy" department under one roof? Freakin' Americans.

:)

i've personally taken the linguistics r6 course and didn't really like it. it is taught by a gsi (grad student). i'm guessing your enjoyment of the class will depend on the teacher. also, i'd advise against taking it at 8am on a wednesday. the subject matter included some research on linguistic research... yes, very uneventful. i'm a ling enthusiast, found the class to suck in terms of satisfying my linguistic urges. for that take anything with professor garrett... he is wonderful.
