American cuture: Sex, Drug, and Violence

I think that the more modernized a country gets, the more there will be problems like drugs, sex, violence, etc. Yet with a third world country such as my location, people are too preoccupied with finding food and shelter, rather than drugs. However, here, the overwhelming majority of drug useres, and pre-marital non-virgins are from the upper class society, so poverty or circumstances don't really play that big a role in drug use.

that sounded a bit off topic, but whatever...

My conceptions (which are probably wrong) is that sex, drugs, and violence are just as prevalent throughout Europe as America, maybe even more so. But, European culture doesn't seem so OBSESSED and fixed on it. It's just accepted and that's that. American seems to have half of it wanting to be chaste and sober, very Nancy Reagan, and the other half wants it to be Hollywood all the time. Like over there, a nude advert isn't met with "omgz!!!" as it would be here. And in Britain there's a program about the sexual escapes of an MP. lolz. There's alot of conflicting here across the pond. We love to pay to see nasty things, but when it's forced on our eyes in a regular setting, say on a billboard or on daytime TV, well, that's just improper.

I'm mostly talking about popular culture (as an American who watches a great deal of European films and is also quite an anglophile).

agreed Ernest.
