Hi,

I was just wondering what kind of preparation do American high school students have regarding the SAT?

Like, did they have a course on it in high school or do they have to study it by themselves or take an extra outside-of-school course?

Thanks.

there are many different options high school students have. some schools do other SAT prep courses while other schools (like mine) do not offer prep courses, therefore we have to either look up courses in our area that are being offered or study ourselves (which i am doing). some people like taking courses with their friends because it helps them study better...i don't know.

Those with time, money, and transportation can sign up for SAT Preparation courses outside of regular school. Other than that, one can buy a review book and study by themselves. There are other small recourses... online questions and material, for examples.

Some teachers give some good advice on doing the SAT. I had a particular teacher in 10th Grade for Geometry who got one of his children to get above a 1400 on the SAT by raising their math scores in a short time (which was important to obtain a certain Florida scholarship); he would give us practice sections of the PSAT (a smaller version of the SAT not used for college admission) in class and prepare us in other ways. XD

the info the other two posters have written is correct; however, there are also those who choose not to prep for the SAT, etc.

I think that most students choose to not prep at all. Believe it or not, most people do not care that much. All the people who do care end up here, on college confidential =P
