This may seem like an inane question, but I've always been a bit curious. What percentage of students actually prep for the SAT? I haven't ever been able to find any data on the subject and am now leaving it to the able members of this forum. Thanks!

Definitely almost everyone on this forum who is posting her probably prepared

This site = 98%, the country is definitely not even close to that.

you kinda need to be specific. For me, I studied, but I studied the week before the SAT.

well, I know that. but I was just curious as to what anecdotal evidence you guys have. like, what percentage of the kids you know/go to school with/are friends with prep. haha.
and as for specifics…hmm, what percentage would you say took more than 4 practice tests. arbitrary number but whatever. time scale is irrelevent i guess.

Most of my friends/kids that I know will take 1 prep class and thats it

I didn’t take a Prep class. I just took a couple practice tests from the BB. Nothing else. I bought some Barron’s workbooks, but I didn’t use them – I probably will to prepare for the May SAT though.

I go to a private school, everyone here either prepares for the SAT or the ACT. Even the brightest kids in my grade, people who got 225 + on the PSAT without studying still prepare for the SAT/ACT.

I think Prep class would be a waste of money in my case. Only took like 2-3 from the BB and skim the PR CR/W SAT study guide.

I come from a pretty affluent/well educated area and my SAT room, only 3 out of 20 people claimed to have studied.

I prepped the week before. I just read through the book “Hack The SAT” (highly recommend- it’s really funny and helpful) and did a practice test from College Board’s SAT study guide. More than anything, prepping helped to build my confidence.
Most of my friends did not prep (as far as I know). One of them took a prep course about a year before she took the actual exam, and it didn’t seem to help her much.

Most of our few top students go to SAT prep classes like Kaplan. My school also has SAT/ACT prep which most students do but it’s not that rigorous and students don’t really care about it. A couple (like me) do independent prep, which I think is most effective.
