American History II and American Government CLEP test advice

Here's my situation:

I'm a junior in my upper-level courses, but during my freshman year all the courses I took were related to my major. I just figured then I could put off taking my history and political science until later. Well, that time has come and looking at my next year, my schedule would be so much more enjoyable if I didn't have these history/polisci courses bogging me down.

I'm basically just asking for any advice/opinions on how easy the History/American Government CLEP tests are. My university only requires a 60/50 respectively on them, so I'm not stressing the exams at all, I was just looking for some feedback for somebody who has used CLEP to get out of these courses. If you have used an online program to help study, which one did you use and how did it help? I've looked at SpeedyPrep and InstantCert but can't really decide on either one.

Thanks!

The American Government exam is known as being a difficult/challenging one. Have you read the exam descriptions on the CLEP website? If no, please make sure you do because they will have a breakdown listed for each exam on what will be covered. Depending on your background with the subject, you may already know quite a bit, but if you are coming from no/little prior knowledge, you will have an idea of the area you need to focus on. Definitely read this info!

Also, I hope you are aware that that a score of 50 or 60 is listing the scaled score – it is NOT a percentage. A perfect score on all of the CLEP exams is 80 (not 100).

Yes, I understand the weighted scores and how they work. I will look more into the breakdowns of the exams and make a decision from there, but I had some considerably challenging history/government classes in high school as well as in college, so I am pretty informed I think. I will get a study book or maybe an online course and I think I should be fine. I just wanted some feedback. Thanks!

quite frankly I think AG would be fairly easy, but that might be because I took AP U.S. Government this summer, so many concepts are still fresh in my mind…

maybe you should buy some review books or rent a government/civics textbook?
