American Idol 2020 and Beyond

Just listened to the top twelve, not overly impressed with anyone, though Colin, Megan and Iam were pretty good. Nutsa was obviously the best of the night to me. Have I just become jaded from watching too many of these shows? Seems like America really favors young pretty white girls in this years competition, and country white guys. I guess that could be any year, but if people are focusing on that, maybe that’s why AI has been going down the tubes as time goes on. Lucy was good, but she doesn’t seem particularly personable, seems angry and too much of a showboat, not something that will get her votes. Then again, I haven’t seen all the episodes.

I have to say though, Ryan is just about the sincerely nicest person. Unless he’s a really good actor.

She seems like she’s really angry all the time, doesn’t smile much. Maybe it’s just stress, but at least most of the others seem grateful and at least pretend to play the game. And there was that one episode where she kept doing these weird hand motions every time the camera passed over her, maybe making the “L” for Lucy? We didn’t know what was wrong with her, it was a “look at me, look at me” sort of thing. Definitely a turnoff.

It’s interesting that you view her as “angry” - I see a determined woman who has a lot on her plate (raising 2 kids as well as life stuff) - as for the hand gestures…for years AI contestants have hand signaled their # for votes, the 2 hands to make a heart, peace signs and so many more. I assumed the production team made suggestions to do it. While I don’t see it as often I still see many contestants make hand gestures. Maybe you just don’t resonate with her. She’s got a lot of emotion and a big personality.

I personally don’t resonate with Nutsa, so I find her antics annoying, over the top and attention grabbing.

I really wanted to like Lucy because of her determination to give her kids the best possible life, but just like @busdriver11 I find that something about her rubs me the wrong way. Unlike the other single mom, a stripper, who was sent home earlier…

Not unique to this year. The WGWG (White Guy with Guitar) bias has been in evidence for many seasons.

I’ve only been flipping in and out so far, seeing portions of the competition, so I’m seeing small snapshots of these people. I don’t remember seeing Nutsa before, so I’m only getting an opinion on her from this one performance, so I don’t know if she’d be otherwise annoying to me. Like Bunsen, I also wanted to like Lucy because of her personal situation. The last time we saw her doing those hand gestures constantly )we were looking at each other asking, what is wrong with that woman?

I’m also not a big fan of the judges, they need some new blood who will actually give constructive criticism. Katy is over the top annoying!

You’re baaaaaaack!! Hi!

Agree that Lucy looked hostile instead of excited when they saved her. Pounding her fists seemed off. Lots of tweets like this are out there :

Rock ‘n roll tonight!

Technically, it’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night. And most of the songs so far have had no rock n roll elements.

I’m finding tonight painful to watch.

I’ll be switching to Succession (HBO) at 9:00 pm.

(ABBA’s Dancing Queen for Rock n Roll?! :woman_facepalming:t3:)

Oops. True. Thought they said, when they announced the person guest coaching they said it was a rocker night

Agreed. there is little rock ‘n roll or hard rock— only Adam Lambert singing a song is close. That’s a Tina Turner song he is singing, yes?

We’ did a great job.

Did not care for Nutsa’s song, and, apologies, but that ginormous zit on her chin was distracting.

I agree with you about Lucy, it was a few episodes ago when I noticed it- like she was about to get into a smack down. Nutsa also was a little over the top for me in the beginning. She seemed to settle down a bit. I saw a news headline that said she was “controversial”. I didn’t feel like reading it as I’m not that into it lol. I like Warren,Haven and We so far tonight. Agree with someone above who said they went from 24-12 so quick.
