<p>Estimate the amount of 2014 education credits (American Opportunity, Hope and Lifetime Learning) that your parents will claim for 2014 using their 2014 financial documents and 2013 IRS Form 1040, line 49.</p>

<p>When i look at line 49, it's blank so i assumed its 0 but then i looked at line 66, and it says American Opportunity Credit, and there is a number next to it. Which number should i put down, 0 or the number next to line 66?</p>

<p>So it sounds like your parent is only receiving the refundable portion of the American Opportunity Credit (line 66); regardless, you enter the amount from line 49 - assuming that this is a FAFSA question.</p>

<p>OK - I am only familiar with FAFSA; perhaps someone with CSS experience can chime in. I assume that if it is asking for line 49, then, you should fill in line 49 (zero).</p>
