So I was accepted to both Emory and American in hopes of entering a path dealing with international relations. I was denied from gtwn sfs:( but am happy with my acceptances. Basically I would like your oppinion on which school is better…Emory offers more options (I might go pre med or law) but I love dc and know for IR american might be better.

Congratulations on your acceptances! Either would be a good choice. If you seriously think you might go pre-med, obviously Emory is one of the top programs in that field, so it might be wise to go there. I hear the stereotype for Emory is “everyone is pre-med”, just as for AU it is “everyone is political science/international relations.” Obviously, that’s not true for either school, but it speaks to the strength of those respective programs. For pre-law however, AU would probably be just as strong as Emory. Another important thing to keep in mind is both pre-med and pre-law are tracks, not majors, and can be done in conjunction with any other major. So if you wanted to do IR AND pre-law, for example, you could do that. For IR itself, AU definitely has a strong program (the largest in the United States) and the location of DC can’t be beat. Good luck with your decision!

Thanks-now that I think about it I think I’m leaning more towards pre law an IR. And I know Emory is a great school but I wouldn’t mind getting out of ATL. Does anyone know anything about the university college program at American?

I’m an alum of the University College program (it’s a great program), so shoot me a private message and I’d be happy to answer any questions. I could do it here as well but don’t want to veer the thread too off-topic.
