This is going to be pretty general but I'm very unsure which to pick.
I like both in terms of their stats and all the basic stuff that I've read, but I'm trying to figure out which would be better in terms of overall experience- in and out of the classroom.

I have visited American and liked it. I haven't yet visited Emory, but I have a scheduled a time to do it. I am probably going to major in Political Science or something similar.

Anyone that can attest to the experience at either American or Emory College at Emory would be greatly appreciated.

The general academics will be stronger at Emory (which is a great place). However, the internrship opportunities that come from being in DC, and offered through the career center at American (which is ranked much higher for same) will be more numerous, broader, and wider than those available at Emory. If the classroom is your thing (except for IR) go to Emory; if your scan is wider, go to American.

The political science, IR, etc. programs would be hard to beat at American. The internships and career placement opportunities are also extensive at American. American is right near DC (basically in the city), I’m not sure where Emory is. American has a strong social scene that mostly goes to DC, but it does have a tried and true campus with campus activities (the basketball team is good, I hear). American is about 50% graduate and 50% undergraduate, for a total of roughly 10,000 students. Do not choose Emory just because it has a “higher rank” or even “strong general academics”. You may not need a place with “strong general academics” (i.e., if you know your general field), so while it should be a factor, it shouldn’t be a very important one. The “high rank” factor is absolutely ridiculous. Look at the programs, the campus, the opportunities, and the location. Look at anything else that is important to you. But I implore you, rankings are useless. Go to the school that’s RIGHT.
