It comes down to choosing between Rutgers and American for me. American would end up costing about twice the price of Rutgers, but is still affordable. I intend to major in something in the humanities, NOT political science or international relations. Thanks all.

Which do you like better? Do you prefer New Brunswick or DC? How easy is it to pay the difference? I figure AU is smaller-- do you like big or small? Rutgers has better sports-- football, for example, which AU doesn't have. Is that a part of college life you would enjoy?

Several humanities majors at AU are strong-- I love the history dept. I don't know enough to advise in depth. Languages are strong, psych is strong, Lit seems strong. Fabulous new arts center, really fabulous.

At AU you will have experience internship opportunities throughout the school year. DC is easily accessible from the campus via free shuttle to the metro, which is actually in walking distance.

Check out the course catalogs from both schools for the subjects you want to study, see which has course offerings that are more appealling to you.

If you are truly undecided, saving money at your state school might make sense. I love AU, but I sure understand money as a factor.

What does your gut tell you to do?

i think SIZE WILL BE A HUGE FACTOR!!! rutgers is huge, without a doubt. shuttle buses take kids to eat, classes, etc. new brunswick has some very undesirable areas, as well, so off -campus apartments need to be chosen wisely. size will also dictate class size, and professor-student interaction. humanities would be fine at either. AU is certainly not limited to IR, Poli-sci, etc. good luck!

I'm from Jersey and let me just warn you, New Brunswick is nowhere near DC. Rutgers football was a fluke this year so it's not like that should be your deciding factor. Come to AU, if you really miss football, go chill at UMD (which is what I did when I desperately missed my football).

i have friends at Rutgers...new brunswick vs. DC......NO CONTEST! and you'll get so much more attention(if you want it) at AU. can't believe how good their career counseling is!

Rutgers is certainly nothing special.

i live about 20 minutes from the new brunswick campus and i'm not a fan of rutgers at all.

the classes are the size of a small army and there's no way you'd get the attention american provides

i feel like rutgers has just gotten popular because of sports and that's wonderful, but that still doesn't make up for other lackluster areas.

and not to mention its nowhere NEAR washington dc. get out of jersey while you can, haha

Rutgers sucks!!! It is worth any cost to not have to attend that $hit hole
