I want to have this class as my foreign language requirement. However, the class is full and there is no waitlist.... Is there any chance that I will get in?? Has anyone ever taken ASL at UVA? How was it? Thank you.

I’ve heard really good things about ASL. But I don’t know anything about the waitlist. Have you emailed the prof?

I tried getting into asl at one of the earliest orientations. However, I wasn’t allowed to because you have to be at least a second year to take it and then I also learned that it doesn’t fulfil your foreign language requirement as it is “American” sign language.

I am a first year enrolled in ASL, and I was told that it does meet the foreign language requirement for CLAS. Hope that was correct info! It is listed on the requirements page.

Yes it is on the official CLAS page still. I wonder who told you it does not count?

yeah - i saw it on that page before orientation, so when I got there I was really confused and disappointed when I wasnt able to enroll, especially because there were 7 open seats!

The lady who told me this was one of the advisors/people-in-charge who did the actual registering of classes at orientation after the OL’s checked to see if the classes were available.

Now I’m stuck in French :(
