I applied to University of Richmond and I just saw on their site that they do not count
"American Sign Language" as a foreign language... Which I took for three years. They say
"two units of the same language, not including American Sign Language, which will not satisfy the requirement for foreign language)"

So I am thinking they cannot accept me because of this which makes me REALLY sad.

Do any of you guys known any more information on this Richmond "requirement"'

Do I still have a chance? or should I just not forget about it.

I really wanted to get in....

oh…snap… that sounds horrible.

Can’t even imagine what you might have felt when you read that sentence.

I think the best thing you can do right now is just to call the admission office

Did you take any other foreign language course besides the sign language?
if you did - whether in or outside the school - you might be able to mention it.
If the language part Is indeed a requirement, then i cannot tell you what decisions the adcom made…

I think it all comes down to your application in general - the rigor of curriculum (in terms of other courses besides foreign language, of course), GPA, standardized scores, ECs and more.

Wish you the best luck, though !

I’m sure you still have the chance, just call their office of admissions and let them know you weren’t aware of that requirement when you applied and if your school offered that class as a “language class” then tell them that as well. I wish you the best of luck!
