American Student looking to attend college in Ireland

I know nothing about the higher education system in Ireland and would love to begin to learn more.

As an American student I would love to attend college in Ireland.

Question though: is it possibly financially to attend college in Ireland? As in can I pay for an education in Ireland without being really really expensive? Are there any loan options or financial aid for me? Is it unrealistic to be able to afford education there as a non EU member?

I'm not wealthy nor am I struggling, but I would probably have to rely on some form of financial aid or loans if I was to go to college in the US.

Have you looked on the websites of Irish universities? Most of your questions will be answered there.

There are maintenance grants available, not sure if you qualify but well worth looking out. There are no college fees though you have to pay a registration fee of over 2000 euro.

^^^a little confused by your answer

“Maintenance grants” are grants that supplement living expenses for low-income students. The Irish equivalent of Pell grants. However, they are only available to Irish students as far as I am aware.

Generally speaking, from what I’ve seen, non-EU fees at public universities in Ireland seem to run between 10,000 and 20,000 Euros per year (up to 40,000 Euros for a few expensive majors like medicine). Budget another 10,000 - 15,000 Euros for living expenses during the school year.

Some universities offer merit-based partial tuition scholarships to non-EU students, but that will be as much support as you will get from Ireland. If you need more assistance, your best bet is a private student loan from the US or a loan in the name of your parents (e.g. a mortgage on your family home).
