@AccreditAP uh oh… I hope that’s not a sign that the rest of us have been rejected

@hannahb26 I’m sure it’s not, it’s probably because I made it beforehand. I wouldn’t stress about it.

@AccreditAP when did you make the account? It’s not the prospective student portal one… I’m scared

@htran15127 It’s not the prospective student portal?? I’ve been referencing that this whole time, whoops. To my knowledge none of us would be able to go into the actual portal yet. Don’t be scared-- if it was that easy to find out if we got in or not AU would have probably addressed it.

A similar ordeal is happening in the GW thread (regarding a plausible sign of admission). I wouldn’t fret. Plus, when it comes to portals I’m pretty sure you have to accept admission first, or at least that’s how my dual enrollment worked.

@AccreditAP No. The prospective Student Portal is different, as it serves to inform you the status of your application (without letting you know the decision, however)–sigh… myAU should be this link:
https://myau.american.edu/my.policy
Peeps from the previous threads created theirs around the 18 or so… So I am not positive, in regards to when we would b able to “know” our decisions, if possible at all, this way, anymore.

@htran15127 I figured. Some people from my school were having problems with the prospective student portal yesterday so I just assumed you guys were talking about that.

Just to clarify, will they be sending an email/releasing the decision online or will we just get a letter?

Did anyone get an email about the webinar tonight on the remaining part of the admissions process at 8-9?

@lulu7575 it’s only through mail

@smittyabc Yes i did!

So the email said they mail out decisions March 20th, does anyone know if they mail them out in batches or all at once?

@lulu7575 From reading previous threads, I think their mailing is pretty random…

On the other hand, are you guys attending the webinar? If so, only if you have time, would anyone mind making a quick summary of the webinar? I have a group meeting for next week’s finals all night tonight :(.

I am. I will try and summarize!

Webinar power point slides:
-Class profile: 18,600 first year applicants, 1,700 (anticipated) class size, admit rate: around 29%
-Decision notifications: Beginning March 20 via USPS or for international students via email
-Different types of decisions: Fall 2017, Spring 2018 (option: mentor ship program in Fall 2017), wait list, deny
-Admission to Fall 2017: Program admission decision, financial aid consideration, merit scholarship consideration, AU Scholars and Community-based research scholars consideration
-Admission to Spring 2018 & MP: Still a pathway to AU, mentor ship program on campus, in Greece, or the UK (15 semester hours, internship), Spring 2018 financial aid consideration (not for MP though)
-Wait list: unclear if they’ll go to it (haven’t much in the past, said that doesn’t really determine what happens this year), information on the decision letter on how to accept a spot on the wait list (not ranked)

A bunch of questions were also asked.

@lulu7575 They stated that it’s random (no alphabetical order) but in the chat section of the webinar it was stated that they typically send out admit packets first.

@AccreditAP thank you!

My daughter not nervous, but I am!!! The mail goes to her at her residential school, so we have to wait for her to call us…the visions of running out to the mailbox and tearing open the envelope will b missed!

Thank you for the summary! 29% is extraordinarily low. The public SAT and grade ranges for AU are a fair bit lower than other schools with comparably low admit rates. I wonder if AU draws a big pool with slightly lower numbers or just chooses based on a different set of criteria.
