American University Regular Decision 2023

This is a thread for both discussion and sharing decisions for AU Regular Decision 2023. Good luck to everyone who applied!

I’ll be submitting my application tonight. Just got deferred from Georgetown but I’m trying to get to DC anyway I can!

@mkb679 sorry to hear about Georgetown! good luck on AU though

does au notify by snail mail? when does everyone hear?

The AU ED 2023 discussion thread made it seem like AU uses snail mail, not email to notify admissions decisions. Last year I think acceptance letters were mailed around 3/20!

Does anyone know anything about interviews for AU? I went to a regional info session and the rep suggested I interview with him (I was worried about their reputation for turning away high stats kids bc they do not want to be a safety, I wanted to show further interest). I never saw any info about it on the website, so I emailed him. I have not heard back and it’s been over a month. Are interviews usually in the spring? Has anyone been contacted about them? Thanks!

@studious123 , were you already on their mailing list before the info session? And when was that info session?
My daughter interviewed with one of the AOs back in September, while the AO was in town for the local info session. They had sent emails in advance asking if potential applicants were interested in interviews. That said, I’m sure there must be later interview opportunities too. Your rep may just have been very busy right now dealing with the ED pool etc, but as it’s been longer than a month, if I were you I’d send a follow-up email (maybe cc the general admissions email).

Does anyone know when decisions come out for the honors program? I am applying during regular decision, would I hear back at the same time as my regular decision? Asking because the honors program merit scholarship is pretty much the only way I would be able to afford AU and I need to be clear of all of my options before making the May 1 deposit.

on their Honors application, it say April 1 for decision

@SJ2727 I went to the info session in November, so I am hoping my rep is doing interviews in the spring! I am going to send a follow-up email now, thanks for your help!

So I applied to American awhile ago but never got an email telling me to set up an application account so I found a thing on their website to set it up myself. Is this a thing?

Hi! Can someone chance me for American RD??

GPA: 3.28 UW, 3.72 W
SAT: 1360 (700 English, 660 Math)
7 APs by the end of senior year
5 Honors classes
Major: Political Science

Extracurriculars:

  • 2 Congressional internships
  • founder of online magazine focused on social justice & pop culture
  • junior captain of school’s debate team
  • 200+ hours of volunteer hours
  • founder of educational seminar at my volunteer center.

@allforcollege145 I don’t think they use a portal, we receive decisions by mail

Do American RD decisions all get released the same day the way ED and EA do or do they roll out in a wave? Do you receive an email or snail mail? What date has it been in past?

Mardonna90265 American does not offer EA. Waiting for RD info!

Not sure if anyone will be able to answer this, but I applied RD and auditioned for Musical Theatre BA. Will I hear back at the same time?

@asquared122 - just saw this morning when I went back to SlideRoom that it said people who auditioned via video for the acting program would be notified in MAY, when they were also notified about admission. I’m hoping that’s a major typo since May 1 is the deadline to confirm admission with other schools. I have been a little disappointed in American’s lack of communication.

Has anyone heard a date for decision notification?

anyone hear anything?

Last year, they mailed it out on March 19th. It’s possible that they’ll mail letters on the 18th this year.
