Can someone give me the skinny? I am a very politically and academically oriented person, yet I like to have a good time and party. I am in a fraternity. I dress preppy, and am not Italian/Irish as are the kids at my current school, although I am white. I don't follow sports too closely tho. Is this school a good fit? Are really that many guys gay, which matters in terms of making guy friends which is almost necessary to gain female friends? Will I be able to find a date/get laid easily? I do a bunch of extracurriculars, including a frat, newspaper, model UN, ballroom dancing and a political club, with a 3.43 GPA (only cuz while I did awesome my first two semesters, I bombed last one.

You might want to ask in the American University forum.

To be honest I found your post a little offending. “I dress preppy, and am not Italian/Irish”…“Are really that many guys gay”…“gain female friends”…“Will I be able to find a date/get laid easily”… Maybe it’s just me, but what are you trying to say in these sentences? Your writing is completely demeaning to other ‘whites’, gays, and females. And this is coming from a person who’s not even in any of these groups. So if you want to ask questions, please be polite and conscious of other people in this forum. I pretty sure you’ll get more responses this way.

I agree with 45daysinrome. As someone who’s applying to American as a transfer right now, I have to say, I’m kinda surprised. I’m trying to escape the whole immature frat/jock atmosphere of my current school and thought American didn’t really attract that.

well ajdel13, I’m a hybrid. One can be a frat boy but also like politics, international relations, etc. I can be both a conformist and an individual. I like friends and girls who like to have fun but can have interesting and substantive conversations about things like the news, politics, economy, international relations. Who said one must fit a cookie cutter mold?

Well, not to make this about fraternities, as this is a post about AU, but you really don’t help not make yourself look like a stereotypical frat guy with statements like:

“Are really that many guys gay, which matters in terms of making guy friends which is almost necessary to gain female friends? Will I be able to find a date/get laid easily?”

You say you don’t want to “fit a mold,” but all your concerns about social aspects of your current university point to you wanting to fit others into molds themselves. Yeah, social reasons factor into my decision to transfer too, but not being Italian or Irish like other students at your school? Are you serious dude?? How trivial can you be!?

Lastly, you can be straight and have gay friends. I don’t know who told you otherwise.
