Amherst Class of 2025

This article is not a reliable source. Just in reading the first several schools, they got Bowdoin and Bates wrong.

I’m a parent and I really don’t understand why colleges feel the need to NOT announce the decision dates in advance. If their peer institutions can do it, why can’t they? And why have 2 dates on their OWN web site (19th and 20th)? Plus, if it is true that likely letters were sent out saying that RD will be released on the 23rd, why not tell everyone. I don’t get it. It does NOT add to the “mystique” of the college, only creates stress and uncertainty. Carry on…

I totally agree. It’s very stress-inducing, and I would assume that they would certainly know when decisions are getting released by now. I don’t see a reason for them to be cryptic about the decision release date, especially when aware of the anxiety it’s causing applicants!

I think Amherst has reported that RD decision date will be in late March. I saw on a site separate from Amherst’s site that the date is 29 March. Also, applications at some “highly rated” colleges/universities are way up this year. This may be related to those schools going test-optional. Even without covid-19 limiting office productivity (distancing, work-at-home, wear mask, etc.) the higher number of applications would naturally extend the decision date out beyond what was honored in previous years.

Do we think decisions are coming tomorrow or should we expect to wait until the 29th? Not sure where either of these dates are coming from but the earlier the better😳

I’d been wondering about the numbers, here they are.

Amherst expects forty-five percent of its Class of 2025 will be drawn from its ED admits (up from thirty-nine percent last year). Meanwhile, 13,930 students applied to Amherst Regular Decision (a thirty-one percent increase over last year).

Amherst has announced that for domestic Early Decision applicants, a whopping forty-five percent applied without testing (test-optional) and a full thirty-nine percent of Amherst’s ED admits were test-optional. Among all Regular Decision applicants, forty-nine percent have applied test-optional.

What I love about Amherst is that they are thoughtful in creating a first year class. As a parent of current student, I remember the Dean telling us at the welcome that they were absolutely intentional in admitting each student and it was no accident or random selection process. Since they said on or around the 20th, that tells me that this has not changed even in the midst of a difficult year not just for students and parents, but AO’s dealing with such an increase in applications.

I know that the wait will be worth it for those accepted to Amherst College. It is such a wonderful school and if not Amherst, you or your student will wind up exactly in the right place.

I wish you all peace until that exciting electrifying email shows up telling you to log into your portals. Best wishes!
