Hello everyone. I don’t know if this means anything this close to decision time–but there’s a tilde (~) before my parents’ income tax docs in the finaid portal. Tilde means “negation.” So I’m probably rejected. Please see this somebody.
@morusa same here
Nothing lol
Nope
Nothings there for me
Same. Nothing.
Let the non stop Gmail refreshing begin!
@RoleastLained What? How do you know it means “negation?” For what purpose are they supposed to do so?
Google “tilde” @Konetix
I have no idea what the tilde means, but I just googled and found this:
The file with a “tilde” (~) at the beginning of the name is likely a temporary file created by the program. The tilde symbol is used to prefix hidden temporary files that are created when a file is opened in Windows.
So it may be that your file is open right now. Good luck!
The purpose I believe could be to mark applications that they do not need to work on. It’s just a hunch, but a lot of schools don’t even touch finaid apps for rejected students.
Amherst might come out at 5 PM / 6 PM EST b/c that’s when Smith and the other colleges in the consortium come out … except for Holyoke which came out this morning
@GrantsMom I’ll quote what I see when I googled
til·de
ˈtildə
noun
an accent (~) placed over Spanish n when pronounced ny (as in señor ) or Portuguese a or o when nasalized (as in São Paulo ), or over a vowel in phonetic transcription, indicating nasalization.
the tilde symbol as a part of a URL.
a symbol similar to a tilde used in mathematics to indicate similarity, and in logic to indicate negation.
Yep, I get that. But I Googled what a tilde means in front of a document or file and got the paragraph I posted, which to me makes a lot of sense for this situation. I think they may have the files with tildes open and are working on them. We’ll soon find out!
@RoleastLained I think that you go definitely too far with this thinking. The decision has nothing to do with this “tilde”. @GrantsMom is right.
wow! the nearer we get to the decisions, the more far fetched the speculation becomes.
Nope
I have the tilde in front of my documents too.
Doesn’t everyone have it though lol?
@afterthought Nah, I don’t have it. Got accepted to Bowdoin though so I’ll be fine if I get rejected. The anticipation of the decision is killing me
Lmao just a guess but I think you’re reading way too into this Mr. Tilde Man
