We got in, which is very surprising considering how little communication we got from Amherst during the process and how many hurdles we had to negotiate our way over. I am really excited and feel very lucky to have made it in, especially with such a strong pool of candidates. Thanks for being around through the long wait, everyone, I would love to hear where you all choose to go!
@RainbowBritey Congratulations! I wish you the very best. #gomammoths
I got in.
I still can’t believe it: It’s like a dream come true.
My entire life was a struggle; I’m used to it.
What I am not used to is the sight of my name associated with the the kind of privilege and luster that Amherst possesses. I wasn’t simply accepted to the best college, but the best among the best.
This is a very humbling, shockingly surrealistic experience: I feel like Alice who was awakened from her summer slumber by a magical white rabbit with a pocket watch. The watch is about to start counting down my time at the College. So much I want to do and try at Amherst, but 2 years is such a short time, so I must be most prudent in the planning of my college experience.
Thank you to everyone who accompanied me on this journey! You are amazing, bright human beings! It was a privilege to know you; and I hope that you find happiness, wherever it may be. Please, stay positive regardless of the outcomes. You never know where you will find happiness. I had 4 rejections in a row, including Vanderbilt with their relatively enormous ~30% transfer acceptance rate. I was saving my rejection letters, so that they motivate me to keep pushing forward when I feel lost and tired–just to prove them wrong. And then I got several acceptances in one day, including my absolute top choice–Amherst. Now, I shall push forward just to make Amherst proud of me, if nothing else. The latter form of motivation is sweeter that the former one, but both will make you succeed. You are all smart, hard-working individuals; and you are all capable of incredible things, regardless of your alma mater!
@OwlOfAthena that is wonderful, I’m so happy for you! Have you registered yet?
Thank you!
Not yet, I just got the news and still trying to process it. I’m still thinking it’s just an ephemeral dream, and I am about to wake up!
Have you already registered? Do you know if there is an overnight visit day for transfer admits? Is there a FB group for transfers?
@OwlOfAthena We haven’t registered yet, we don’t have decisions from all of the colleges we applied to, we are inching closer to a choice though.
I don’t know if they are doing overnight transfer visits or if there is a transfer group, in the “helpful information and contacts” section there was a contact person listed for if you want to chat to a current transfer student - I would reach out and ask them. The language in the various components of the acceptance letter sort of implied that they don’t expect us to visit campus prior to orientation, or was that just me?
@OwlOfAthena Good on Amherst for admitting you and they will be better for it. I’m so excited for you, that I have to congratulate you again on this thread!
Thank you so much!
@RainbowBritey @OwlOfAthena wow, congrats guys! Amherst is such a dream! If you guys don’t mind me asking, where else have you been accepted to or waiting to hear from?
@RainbowBritey I’m in as well, I visited already, and it’s a wonderful and comfortable area for a couple to settle into. It’s a bit chilly, but that’s nothing a good jacket, soup and coffee can’t help. Still waiting on some decisions as well.
@spivotal we were accepted to Williams, Amherst, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz and Cal State, we are still waiting on decisions from Swarthmore, Yale and Brown.
@RainbowBritey Whoa! You must be one hell of an applicant; those are fantastic schools! I bet you’re not too worried for the other decisions having these as your safeties to choose from! Great mix between LACs, larger state schools and Ivies, too. Do you have any preference so far?
Any particular reason why you haven’t applied to Dartmouth?
They do offer SAT waivers.
Accepted: Trinity, Amherst, engineering college at my state flagship.
Waiting for Swarthmore, UChicago, and Dartmouth.
Amherst is my top choice though.
@OwlOfAthena we didn’t apply to Dartmouth simply because we didn’t know anything about them, and applying to nine schools while working and studying and parenting and volunteering was a challenge already haha! That said, I wish I had looked at them earlier because their anthropology program is pretty much exactly what I was originally searching for. I’m very happy with our eventual choices though
Happy for you both @RainbowBritey and @OwlOfAthena !!
@RainbowBritey Did you decide yet?
@Meddy no, we are still waiting for decisions from our last two colleges, we have narrowed it down though
@OwlOfAthena have you decided yet? Are you still waiting on results from anyone?
@RainbowBritey, AAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
