Amherst College Transfer Thread 2019-2020

Is anyone else having a really hard time waiting for decisions at this point? I know Amherst has sent an update and so I can sort of manage that one but some colleges have sent no word at all and I am starting to feel like Odysseus returning from the Trojan war, this application journey seems endless and I am not even sure I will recognize myself by the end of it all.

iI’m with you, Rainbrowbritey. It takes a long time and the waiting game is really horrible. I’ve been doing things to distract myself - taking walks, watching my favorite shows, and engaging in some light reading

I totally feel what you folks have been feeling. This waiting has been really killing me. Just do something fun to distract yourself, and for sure we will get through this before we even realize it.

@RainbowBritey

Are you a non-trad applicant as well?
If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your age ballpark?
Amherst and Williams are among the few schools known to accept older transfer students.

@OwlOfAthena I’m 35, I think that is part of what is causing me to feel committed to the college that released transfer decisions early: as an older student with a family to relocate and a house to move I appreciate colleges that are conscious of the needs of non-traditional students in this process.

@RainbowBritey

You already did so well, fantastic even. Got into some really amazing schools: Williams, and—I believe—I saw you in the UC Berkley thread.
Is it purely academic curiosity—to see where else you can get in—or are you actually considering not going to Williams? They have an amazing alumni network. Probably the best in the country. Half of Williams (~50%) graduates get their first job with the help from an alumnus.

@OwlOfAthena I am not the only one involved in my choice, my husband is also transferring and our daughter will need to be happy wherever we land so high school choice is a factor. I really hope we end up at Williams (not even because of jobs, but because of the quality of education available and their extraordinary level of consideration and generosity towards non-traditional students) but my husband and daughter, quite reasonably, want to wait to make our decision once all of the information is available. We have agreed that our deadline is May 15th, any decisions we don’t have at that point will no longer matter, because I need to begin enrolling my daughter in schools and other programs, finding healthcare for a family and scheduling moving dates, etc.

How about you, where are you leaning at this stage?

@RainbowBritey

Sadly, I haven’t had any acceptances worth mentioning yet.

Has anyone heard anything from Amherst since that Email? They saw they’re going to release “On or before may 6th”, so I’m kinda wondering if some might come out tomorrow…

Congratulations to all you transfers for your big successes already!

My daughter will be starting Amherst College as a first year. She’s a Questbridge and Gates Scholar. She loves children so if your child needs babysitting or tutoring hit her up. I would like her to have an adult contact in that area that understands about working and finances and struggles and juggling.

Your Amherst financial aid login and ID will be used for matriculating students, so keep a note of your credentials handy.

Right now, the fin aid portal is slammed since AC just notified everyone they have to set up their new credentials. Many students only have their admissions portal information set up; the college has to reset everyone who didn’t use financial aid up with their permanent school IDs by May 17th.

Does anyone have any links other than

Online Applications
Home

in their Financial Aid Portal hamburger menu?
Like “Awards”?

I got my first private school acceptance: Trinity college. I’m very happy! ?

@OwlOfAthena Congratulations!

@lizzzzzz

Thank you!

So it looks like they accepted roughly twenty out of four hundred seventy seven transfer applicants last year. Assuming half of them were community college students, that leaves ten spots for non cc students. And I imagine there are at least three hundred non cc applicants. That’s pretty competitive.

Rejected! Not surprised at all, haha. Anyone get in?

Just checked, without a doubt, it’s a rejecion. Congratulation to those who got accepted.

rejected lol, wow only 15 were accepted!

Rejected as a sophomore transfer from a t20 with high 3.8 GPA for those looking for stats in future cycles. Unsurprising decision since I didn’t really communicate why Amherst would be a good fit in my essays. Congrats to those accepted and good luck to everyone in future decisions!
