Getting accepted into the DIVOH program doesn’t guarantee acceptance to Amherst. They were likely rejected because they weren’t what Amherst was looking for, whether that was grades, or scores, or extracurriculars, etc.

Don’t you think they had what Amherst was looking for after getting into DIVOH? I mean you have to submit your grades and test scores to DIVOH.
Well, college admission is a process that involves a lot of relativity. Maybe those 37 students fit the bill compared to the pool of kids who applied to the DIVOH program but weren’t as competitive compared to the larger, perhaps more qualified pool applying to the College.
Also, remember that admissions and host/current students are observing you while you are there. Some may just not be the right fit, and others just do something to screw up while they are there. [-X
