Amherst is the most prestigious, UF honors is the best deal, but I love Duke. Any advice out there?

You just answered that yourself. If money is no issue- go to Amherst. Otherwise, go to UF honors.

Don't see how he answered his question.
What are you studying? What do you want from a school? If you post those up maybe people can present relevant points to you.
Out of the schools you listed I would choose Duke without a question but you have pretty different settings out there. One is a LAC while the other is a major research university. The two schools are also different socially. So, it depends on fit. If you love Duke you should be going there. Prestige wise its on the same level if not better (I have seen plenty of people not know about the top LACs....but prestige should be a small factor in your selection. Both will give you equally great educations. Duke has the better social life and campus spirit. Duke has better research opportunities for the sciences. Both have great connections to wall street.

So yea it comes down to what you want. You can't make a generalized decision here.

I appreciate your opinions, and I didn't answer the question ( how can you interpret Amherst as my choice from the previous post?). Anyway, I am definetly going the pre-med route; however, I want to have the option of doing something else (in case medicine is not my forte) such as business. I'm not sure what school would look the best for wall street, med schools, and business schools.

Amherst has a 96% first try acceptance rate into med school!

How much are finances an issue? If they aren't an issue at all, go where you love (Duke!). If the money would place a big financial burden on your family, go to UF honors. I'm an Amherst student and I'm not going to tell you to come here over somewhere you love.

Then again, Amherst is a once in a lifetime opportunity, Duke will always be around for grad school. Good luck making a choice.

Amherst and Tufts are very similar in their small campus vibe. Tufts has the plus of being near Tufts and having the resources of a research university. I go to Tufts and would recommend it, of course, but like Unregistered I could not tell you to go somewhere you don't love. I agree with him/her that if finances are not a consideration, you should go to Duke; if they are, go to UF Honors.

Finances are not an issue. I just want to go to the college/university that will afford me the most opportunities in the future.

What's interesting is that I met people that got into Duke and not UF Honors, so I don't know what school "looks" the best.

They are all great schools! Go where you will be happiest! As long as you get good grades wherever you go, you will get into whatever grad school you want; get any job you want!

Okay, let's break it down:

Most Prestigious Schools on your list: Amherst/Duke
Best Deal: UF Honors

Let?s be honest here. I've always said that everyone should go to the best school (read: most prestigious) out of the schools that have accepted him, IF finance is no issue.

Of course, some students would turn down Harvard and go to Podunk college because of his/her "fit". But that's minority. The fact of matter is much, much more students would rather go to Harvard if money is no issue. Indeed, prestige (school brand) is one of the most important reasons why so many students are applying to top schools and making their acceptance rate so low while breaking so many students' hearts.

Further, it is you who said:

Amherst is the most prestigious
[/quote]

Doesn?t that mean anything to you?
So, what is that you really want?

If you want the best chance of getting into med school if you go that route and the most leeway in case you decide to change what you study, then Amherst is far and away the best option. Amherst is also well respected by business schools and wall street firms.
Take a look at this, from 2003: http://www.collegejournal.com/special/top50feeder.pdf

I find it hard to choose almost any school over Amherst...come to the open house weekend, you'll see what I mean.

Amherst....... No Doubt Bout It..

Amherst and Duke are essentially equals. If you like Duke more go there.

"Amherst is the most prestigious, UF honors is the best deal, but I love Duke. Any advice out there?"

It seems to me the answer to this question would be Duke, not Amherst. I would probably prefer Amherst, but they are pretty different environments that are certainly close in academic stature that I would just go wherever you got the better feel.

It kinda seems like you want Duke. I would go there. Trust me, UF honors is no big deal- go to Duke. You 'love' the school and money is not an issue, seems like a no-brainer to me.

Go to Duke if you like it more, gator is right, its a no-brainer.

Thanks for all your help. I do like Duke; however, I'm not into alcohol or treating basketball players like gods. I got a good vibe from Duke, but Amherst has such small classes. I don't know if I can turn down such an opportunity.

Have you visited Amherst?

I visited each. When I stayed at Amhest, I had a jerk as a host so my time spent there wasn't so great

If you like small classes, consider:

Amherst: 8 to 1
Duke: 11 to 1
Tufts: 8 to 1
WashU: 7 to 1
UF: 21 to 1

Looks like you should give Tufts and WUSTL another look -- schools you haven't really mentioned on this thread other than to say you were accepted there. Tufts, in particular, may have the non-isolated feel you might enjoy. Plus, no athletes to idolize :)
