Amherst - Study abroad? Some of best programs

For existing students: What are some of the better study abroad programs available thru Amherst? I know some may depend on major, languages studied, but just wondered if you all know of any well-regarded program. Also ones that may be good for math, geology, science majors. Considering both semester/yr. program. (Read the site; just wondering about personal experience/knowledge.)

I wouldn’t say there are any particular programs for study abroad that are the most highly regarded. As you probably saw on the website, Amherst does not offer its own study abroad programs (there is no Amherst in Florence, for example), and students choose to attend programs through other schools (BU, NYU, Vassar, Wesleyan, Wellesley, Swarthmore, Smith, etc.) or through programs (CIEE, SIT, etc.). I would not say that any program is regarded more highly than the others; it does depend on what you’re studying.

You may consider talking to a professor in one of the departments you’re interested in to see if they know of particularly strong programs in math, geo, or science. There may be some very good field study programs that they can direct you to. The Dean of Study Abroad is also a good resource. Her contact information should be on the Study Abroad website.
