Anthropology Major-Is it known for being one of the top programs?

Alright so I received my acceptance letter yesterday (major yay!) but my mom is trying to win me over to ND because ND has one of the top anthropology programs (I tried to deny it but its true). Does anybody know if Amherst offers grants to students so they can take international trips in the summer or the like? Is Amherst somewhat known for the anthropology program?

nd is also catholic…ew and very lame

Amherst does have a strong anthropology program. Of course, do not forget that the open curriculum would allow you to structure your academic experience so that you can extensively strengthen your foundation in anthropology (say, by taking extensive religion or gender studies classes, rather than spending time in classes that may not fit your interests or academic goals).

The Center for Community Engagement at Amherst (http://www.amherst.edu/cce</a>) provides funding for a number of summer internships. (If you’re interested in more details, check out the website, “Internship Opportunities” and either the Civic Engagement Scholars program or ASIP–Amherst Select Internship Program.) Through these programs, students apply to non-profit internships and can receive a stipend for their summer work. For example, every summer several students work in Sierra Leone with an Amherst alumni and receive funding from the CCE. Of course, if you prefer to intern domestically you can also apply for funding through CES, ASIP or the Pioneer Valley Program.

In addition, the Career Center–which oversees study abroad/international opportunities–has information about a number of funded study abroad programs.

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.

I also want to major in anthropology… i was wondering about the 5 college consortium certificate for medical anthropology…
