Amherst Supplement - Which opinion to choose?

Hello,

I’m applying to Amherst, but I really have no idea what opinion to choose for the supplemental.

Opinion A is the prompt one, and Opinion B is the one with where you submit a graded paper to show your analytical skills.

I think I’m doing to do Opinion B because it really displays my writing skills, and I get to show all the work that I’ve done in the IB. But at the same time, Opinion A would help me convey more information about myself.

Help!

Hello???

Would you be submitting your extended essay for Option B? If so, I’d go for it; the extended essay itself shows a great amount of time and effort.

I think that one of the important aspects of the supplementary essay is to show a part of yourself that is not shown throughout the other parts of the application. If you have something important about yourself that you want to tell the admissions officers (and it is not covered in the common application essay), option A might be better. If you think your analytical skills are of a high quality, and you want to emphasize it, go for option B. But at the end, you should choose the option that you think shows a deeper, more significant something about you as a person that cannot be explained by numbers and class ranks. :)

@oystershelleatme did you end up submitting your IB EE?

@weepingmermaid‌ No. I think it’s too long for the admissions people to read. I just wrote a 300 word response. Honestly, if some kid had sent me their 4,000 word paper, I would be swearing them in my head :)
