AMHERST? What are my chances?

Okay so I am applying ED to Amherst here are my stats:

From a small town in rural Minnesota.
High School only offers 5 AP classes (I've taken 4)
parent is a single mother- refugee from Ethiopia
Annual income less then $10,000
GPA-3.89 grades not weighted at my school =(
ACT-25
Literature Subject Test- 650
My reading on the ACT- 31
QuestBridge NCM Finalist

Youth Co-chair of the Minnesota Alliance with Youth Board of Directors
Southwest Minnesota Representative on the Minnesota Youth Advisory Council
Invited to intern with State Farm's NYLC Team this summer.
Winner of nation wide essay contest sponsored by Lifetime TV and attended Republican National Convention as the prize.
Minnesota State Red Wagon Award Recipient

I want to double major in economics, political science and specialize in educational policy.
Goal in life is to reform U.S education system-join Americorp, peace corp, and meet Geoffrey Canada.

My first language was Amharic.

I know my ACT score was bad =( What do u think? Please be honest.

I also have over 500 hours of volunteer service in community- and have spoken at many statewide conferences/summits.
Hosted state youth workshops as well.

It is a big reach. First the selection rate is about 15%. And standardized tests are rated as very important and your ACT is well below the 25% level (a 29 for Amherst). Even your “reading ACT” (I guess that means English ACT?) is just above the 25% level.

Denanesh?
I am also an Ethiopian Minnesotan :)

You sound amazing & you definitely have an interesting background and ambitious aspirations.

I usually hate “chancing” people because we are the same age and I only know so much, but I will because we share a common background.

Your scores seem low and it is quite a reach. What is your class rank?
However, since you are such a strong writer perhaps that will pull your application ahead. In the meantime what other schools are you applying to? Minnesota has a few top ranked LAC’s: Carleton, Macalaster, St. Olaf…

The reading ACT is just the reading portion of the act a 31 is equivalent to a 700 on an SAT Subject test. I beat 97% of students in the reading part. My reading score was outstanding! However my other scores weren’t =/ I am in the top 10% of my class

If it were earlier in the year, I would have suggested not applying ED, retaking your ACT (did you try the SAT?), and making it clear that Amherst is your first choice when you apply in the regular decision round.

As it stands…I honestly do not know. Would you mind giving us your complete score breakdown (how you did on every section of the ACT, not just reading), and what schools you are considering if you are not accepted to Amherst?

Though your SAT scores a bit low, you can surely balance it out with your essays, recs, and ECs ;-). Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816473-chance-aa-female-elite-schools-updated-stats.html</a> <–Include Yale also!

Although your scores are not top par, you can probably raise your chances with unique essays. Also, your extra curriculars will certainly help. I’d say that for now, it’s a reach. But you definitely have a chance.
Can you chance me?^^http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1004549-chances-amherst.html</a></p>

It will be very, very tough.
