<p>Okay so I am applying ED to Amherst College here are my stats:</p>

<p>From a small town in rural Minnesota.
High School only offers 5 AP classes (I've taken 4)
parent is a single mother- refugee from Ethiopia
Annual income less then $10,000
GPA-3.89 grades not weighted at my school =(
ACT-25
Literature Subject Test- 650
My reading on the ACT- 31
QuestBridge NCM Finalist
Amherst Diversity Open House Participant</p>

<p>Voted Most Likely to Succeed
Junior Class President, Senior Class Secretary, Prom Committee President
Youth Co-chair of the Minnesota Alliance with Youth Board of Directors
Southwest Minnesota Representative on the Minnesota Youth Advisory Council
Invited to intern with State Farm's NYLC Team this summer.
Winner of nation wide essay contest sponsored by Lifetime TV and attended Republican National Convention as the prize.
Minnesota State Red Wagon Award Recipient </p>

<p>I want to double major in economics, political science and specialize in educational policy.
Goal in life is to reform U.S education system-join Americorp, peace corp, and meet Geoffrey Canada.</p>

<p>My first language was Amharic.
I also have over 500 hours of volunteer service in my community- and have spoken at many statewide conferences/summits.
Hosted state youth workshops as well</p>

<p>I know my ACT score was only a little above average =( What do u think? Please be honest. I am not good at timed test =( But I am very skilled when dealing with people- I am 100% positive i could get in with an interview. Dang standardized test scores =(</p>

<p>If your essay is compelling enough, you can get in, you probably have a really good story. But, your scores are really low.</p>

<p>Test scores don’t look that great for Amherst but you have a great shot.</p>

<p>i think your ACT is kinda low but, like everyone else sid if you can write a good essay, you def have a shot</p>

<p>Help an average person trim down their list of schools</p>

<p>I think many on these boards see URM and think, no problem, he’s in.</p>

<p>Schools like Amherst reject 70% of URMs.</p>

<p>Being low income and from an underrepresented state helps, but the ACT is a major issue. I would retake this month if you think you can do better.</p>

<p>I’m sorry what does URM stand for? It’s too late for Amherst because I applied ED there, but do you think I would have a chance to Bowdoin if I did not send in my ACT because it is optional?</p>

<p>Agree with everyone else that scores are a little low for Amherst, but you definitely have a great shot!!! Remember to look into other schools, too!! GOOD LUCK!!!
