Amount of Schools...

How many schools should a typical student apply to?

6-10...depends on your preferences...i applied to 15

try the archives, though...there are tons of threads on this subject

i would say 8 sounds good. 15 is a lot of work.

I'm at 7 right now. Two safeties, two matches, and three reaches. That is about average. But most schools I am applying to are rolling admissions, and there are a few of them, that if I get in, September, I will probably not even bother with the rest.

I applied to 8, but just remember to have a good range of admissions difficulties.

Right now it's at about 10...3 reaches, 4 matches, 3 safeties.

But it might change....my mom is hounding me to carve it down :(..

I applied to 22..... best decision EVER, if I could do it again, I would start earlier and apply to 30

How many did you get accepted to out of the 22?

?! Why that many?

I applied to nine schools, got rejected by three

I got accepted to 7, waitlisted at 3 more

if I was better prepared... ie, had sent off my final essay to all colleges I think that I would be accepted to 10 and waitlisted at 5

I did that many to get a shotgun approach, in the end, it gave me the choice of attending a wide variety of state schools or northeast lacs or prestigious universities or even a southern school

Did you apply to any ivies? If so, which ones?

I applied to both Penn and Princeton and got rejected by both.

I applied to one school! But if it hadn't been ED, I would have applied to 4. You really only need one safety. (If it's an actual safety.)
