Does FSU still give the Advanced Math Placement test during orientation? Also what else can I expect during the orientation schedule?

I am not familiar with the AMP. You get math credit for college algebra with a certain SAT math score, and you can take CLEP exams. Here is the center for testing on campus.

You can also get math credit which results in advanced placement with your AP or IB test scores.

Here is a link to information about the AMP, however it looks dated which is why I am wondering if they still do it.

[PROLOGUE: The Advanced Mathematics Placement (AMP) test is an optional, no calculator, one-time-only, two-part, timed test, gi](http://www.math.fsu.edu/~basicmath/AMPIntro.html)

The reason I am asking is because I took AP Calc last year but do not have college credit for pre-calc or trig (both are prerequisites for Calc I). I only found out about the AMP when I saw a syllabus for a Calc I class.

I believe this is an old web page and no longer applies.

If you take AP Calc and do not score at least a 3, you have to go back and start with College Algebra, unless you can CLEP it or get credit for it with SAT scores. If you can get credit for College Algebra, the only way you can take Calc I is to take trig and precalc; or take the precalc CLEP (which, if you get a 50, gives you credit for BOTH precalc and trig.)

I have college algebra from my ACT scores. I did consider taking the CLEP this summer. What is the difference between MAC1147 (credit from the CLEP) and MAC1104?

What’s the math score for SAT and/or ACT to get the college algebra credit?

MAC1114 is trig (2 hrs) and MAC1140 (3 hrs) is precalc and MAC 1147 is trig AND precalc (5 credit hours total).

A SAT 680 is credit for MAC 1105. You will have to google the ACT but I think it is 29 or30.

I noticed a mention of the AMP test on the Dept of Math website, so maybe they still administer it.

If you are going to try to get CLEP credit for math do the MAC1147 exam so you get the most credits for your $$. Remember if you are not in honors, you get earlier registration the more credits you already have after the first semester.

It is a 30 on the ACT for college algebra (MAC 1105). I will definitely take the CLEP test for MAC1147 during the summer…right after my IB exams X_X

No one has answered the second part of the question so far. What else can I expect during orientation? Is there a lot of opportunity to meet people or is it very scheduled? I have one of the early orientations so I’m very excited!

Most students stay overnight in the dorms during orientation and get to know the orientation leader who is an older knowledgeable student and the other students in their group. There are breaks in between sessions and ice-breaker type activities that should help you meet new people.

There is only on CLEP now that combines precalc and trig. They are no longer separate and it is all or none. If you get a 50 you get 5 hours and if you don’t you have to take both classes :(.

There are older threads from last year with LOTS of info on orientation. GO to forum search, click on advanced, and click to search for threads with “orientation” on the FSU forum.
