An Affiliation Feature for CC?

Hello!

I realize that part of the CC experience is user anonymity, but I wonder if it would be possible to add an affiliation feature to each user’s profile. The CC team might have already discussed this, and that might be what the Biography feature is for, so I apologize if this is a redundant suggestion.

My rationale is that, essentially, knowing the user’s affiliation contextualizes their comments. This would further the credibility of many users who have first-hand experience of one or more schools in particular. Furthermore, it makes it easy to ask valuable members for advice pertinent to your specific school.

Many people already list their alma mater or child’s school in their location, but it need not be that overt. Obviously, if the user is not an alumni/student/teacher/parent, or wishes to remain unaffiliated, they don’t have to use the feature.

Again, I apologize if this is a poor idea.

What values might you see for this “affiliation” field? Are you referring to user type information, such as parent, student, recent graduate, etc.?

I think it’s a good idea, but users would have to remember that not everyone is truthful!

Hello again! I was thinking of alumni affiliation actually, but the user type designation would work as well.
