i am wondering, i have a passion for designing clothes. now, i have no clue how to make clothing but i love drawing them and inventing them. (note: i do NOT want to do this as a profession b/c i want to make a difference and i believe that doing neuroscience research would be more beneficial than clothing design). nevertheless, i do not really pursue this passion, except on paper, b/c my parents do not like the idea of a guy designing clothing and they wouldn't support me if i took a clothing desing course or the like. thus, if i can get my paper designs critiqued and then work on them, could i potentially send them to a large clothing design company and have them think about marketing one of my designs or something? still, i have absolutely no idea how to use a needle and thread. let me know.

sounds cool. try reaching some clothing companies. if you're really successful, they might like your designs and actually launch them. who knows? shoot for the stars

If designing clothing is really your passion, you'll find a way to take and pay for courses whether or not your parents support you in your passion. Otherwise, why bother? What you're doing without knowing how to sew or even knowing the basics of design is simply fantasy. Enjoy it if you like, but IMO it doesn't qualify as any kind of passion since you're not taking your desire seriously enough to find out how to really do it. I doubt that clothing manufacturers would take you seriously since you don't seem to know any of the basics of their business.

People who truly have passions do those things regardless of whether they get their parents' support. Indeed, most people I know who pursued passions did it without parental support. I doubt that Bill Gates' parents thought it was dandy when he decided to drop out of college.

you are right, northstarmom. thanks for the reality check. the truth is exactly what you said, now that i think about it. i would love to do that, but i don't want to do it so badly that i would risk my relationship with my parents. also, i don't even plan on taking up clothing design in the future, b/c i don't view clothing design as a job that benefits people - it just benefits people who love art for the sake of art. and i love art for the sake of art, but i also want my job to be one that involves helping others. thanks for the responses anyways.
