An Econ major transferring to University of Minnesota Twin Cities

<p>I am a freshman econ major at Northeastern University. I applied to University of Minnesota Twin Cities for Fall Semester 2012. Could anyone please tell me how the econ program at University of Minnesota Twin Cities like? Can undergrad students participate in researches? And I also want to roughly know my chances. So do anyknow the average SAT scores and average GPA for transfer to University of Minnesota Twin Cities? Thank you.</p>

<p>Hey!</p>

<p>I am also applying to UofM for transfer (Econ major). I am from India though, and have to apply as an international student. I have heard the Econ program here is really strong. Average GPA is about 3.35 according to their website. And the average SAT score is about SAT Critical Reading: 530 / 690
SAT Math: 600 / 720
SAT Writing: 540 / 660
According to this site- [University</a> of Minnesota Profile - ACT Scores and Admissions Data for the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities](<a href=“http://collegeapps.about.com/od/collegeprofiles/p/U_Minnesota.htm]University”>University of Minnesota: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores)</p>

<p>So have you already applied? And what is your profile like?</p>

<p>There are 4 econ majors at the U of MN. BA, BS, Quantitative Emphasis (BA) and Applied (BS) over at the Ag school. (and there might even be something econ based over at Carlson)</p>

<p>so in general, are undergrads allowed to do economic research?</p>

@mallika23 I’m also from india and want to apply as an international transfer student to U of M twin cities for fall 2017 though my major is different, can you please give me an idea of what are my chances to get into the uni.

My stats:-

  1. college gpa (3 semesters) - 9.4 (out of 10) (2nd rank out of 130 students)
  2. credits earned (not transfer credits) - 66
  3. major (interested in) - electrical and computer engineering.
  4. toefl ibt - 90
  5. EC :- social (rural) internship , core member of our university team making a prototype electric vehicle for eco shell marathon ( I’m the only junior selected ), helped professor to setup a new experiment in the curriculum, member of robotics club at my uni , member of ieee student chapter.

What??

Guys, this is an old thread. VERY old.

Yeaa

But can you please comment if you know anything??

For transfer students, they go off your college GPA more than anything else. You will need to look up the prerequisites for electrical engineering and make sure that you have met the GPA minimum to be admitted to the major (usually a 3.2 for engineering so you will need to work with UMN to understand how your grades translate to that scale). You will also need to know whether you can transfer into a major or is there a waiting period once you enroll at CSE. That’s pretty much all I would know. CSE takes in about 300 new transfers per year, according to their statistics.

Good luck!

thanks…
Do they review international transfer students in the same way as they review US resident transfer student ??

@Battosai, no idea. Best to call and ask.

okay thanks…
