Sup guys, I wrote supplement that was a humorous essay about how I nearly **** my pants while out on a jog...and I talk about what I learned philosophically as well as life lessons. Is just the idea itself of ****ting your pants too inappropriate or controversial for college admissions? Will they look down upon it at all? It's pretty good and I don't want to just throw it away. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks.

oh and since it censored it, i meant poop if that wasn’t clear to anyone

If you don’t take the college essay seriously, colleges won’t take you seriously. Have some people read it, see what they think.

So is William Burroughs (perhaps). But a Burroughs college essay would not fly.

Hey, Burroughs went to Harvard.

^In the 1930s. Applications then were much more dry. See JFK’s application, for instance. I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t even a personal statement in the application.

I did take it seriously and wrote about important lessons and whatnot. The reason why I wrote about it is because it was the first thing that came to mind and I tied in philosophical concepts. People have read it and told me it was pretty good, would the topic be too inappropriate? That’s the main question

It’s probably inappropriate for just about every college, and it would be wildly inappropriate for many colleges. Why don’t you write one about the fun of being an Internet ■■■■■?

Since when did writing about a humorous story from the heart constitute to be being a ■■■■■? I’m actually considering using this but if anybody wants to read it, I’m open to critique.

I certainly don’t want to read it, and I doubt if the admissions committee will either. Maybe you’re not a ■■■■■, but come on.

I wrote about it is because it was the first thing that came to mind

Here’s the first thing that comes to my mind, as a reviewer, writing a comment: * Essay topic choice doesn’t reflect maturity, judgment or any sense of appropriateness. Uncertain what message he is conveying about himself and his fit at [name of college.]*

It’s a college app. Read by adult strangers who neither know your wacky sense of humor (read: lack of filter) nor have any obligation to like you despite it. You put that sort of thing in your hs newspaper- if they’ll have it.

As long as you have honestly relate to it. If it has happened to you and you know all the feelings and thoughts, then yeah. If not, I wouldn’t go there. Here is an example of [essay on currency](http://dissertationcompanyreviews.com/essay-on-currency.html). read how the topic is elaborated to a good essay.

its a shame how people are so quick to judge. you guys haven’t even read it and are already labeling it as trash

Is nt any essay about poop considered trash?

Quick to judge, yes. But, you note it was the first thing that came to mind. So, one could say you are quick to cling to it.

Btw, adcoms have roughly 15 minutes to review your entire app- an average of about 14 pages, including the essay, all short answer questions and/or any supps, each LoR, plus writing comments and rating. That’s where you want to worry about quick judgments.

Remember that adcoms are adults. Show your essay to some adults–ideally adults who aren’t members of your family–and see what they think.

i have…and they all said it was really good, but maybe might not appeal to everybody on the admissions committee

in case you guys are wondering, i’m not using it anymore cuz its kinda risky even though i liked it =(

I’d say high risk, high reward. I wouldn’t put it on your common app though, but it can’t hurt if you send it to a reach school if you don’t care about the application fee.

They’re telling you in a nice way not to use it.

I don;t want to jump to any conclusions, but, I guess if you can convey a deeper meaning to the experience, it could work. And if you do it well, maybe it might even stand out, you never know… But it could be quite a risk though. Still, I do not want to judge the essay without reading it first :D
