Now that he has a book out, one can no longer read more than the first paragraph or two of the letter at the posted link.

DonnaL is right.

A friend emailed me last night to say that this wonderful letter is now a book. I went to the site and downloaded the digital edition, which is a lovely photo essay version of the letter Mr. Perkins wrote last summer.

I have since gone back and ordered a couple of copies of the paperback edition to send as gifts to friends who have kids leaving for college in September. It’s a little disappointing not to have this available as a free read anymore, but I must say that the book is wonderful.

Virtually every one of the OP’s posts on CC concerns Mr. Perkins. Are you his publicist, OP?

If you mean me, then no, I’m not connected to Mr. Perkins in any way. Other than enjoying his writing. Do you think I should apply for the job? :-)

It’s true that I’m a bit of a lurker and don’t post often. I found this forum last year when my son was leaving for school. I found Mr. Perkins’ writings shortly after that, as I was still floundering around the web for comfort. I shared it here because it seemed appropriate to this forum.

If I’ve breached some protocol by not posting enough, or not posting enough variety, then I apologize.

Thank you! My is leaving in two months from our Pacific Northwest home to the East Coast. I had to catch my breath everytime I thought about it! This has given me the outline to share my thoughts with him. This means so much. Thank you for sharing.
