An Interesting Tidbit of SAT/ACT Information from an Admissions Officer

I attended a little "meet and greet" type thing with WashU b/c of the research program I'm in collaborates with the university. So anyway, the head admissions officer told us that they superscore the SAT and the ACT by taking the best scores from each section. Apparently, the scores are run through a computer that selects the best scores from each section of both tests and that's what the admissions people see. So if you scored:

SAT ACT
790M 30M
790W 33E
400R 36R
36S

The Adcoms would only see the 790M,790W, 36R, and 36S. She didn't elaborate on whether they replace SAT writing for ACT english vs. ACT writing.

Does anyone know how common this practice is? I was very surprised.

georgia tech does that, but they only look at the math and reading scores of the tests.

Interesting point. She didn't talk about whether science was taken into account or not.

that doesnt help me... my highest scores were on one test.
and i only took act once.
but it helps me to know they dont pay much attention to how many times u take it.
