I applied to Princeton ED this year, did not get asked to do an interview with the interviewer in my area, and got deferred. Tonight, I got a call from the Princeton alum in my area to do an interview! Is this a really good sign, or is this probably just a nicetie that Princeton does for everyone when and if they can?

I think it means that your alumni interviewer didn't get to you for some reason or another in the ED round, and did get to you RD. Take it as a sign, because it may be the thing that pushes you over and gets you accepted (so take it seriously).

The same thing happened to me...

If geeting an interview is a good sign, no interview may be bad sign. Is that true?

Not a bad sign, more likely due to
- insufficient number of alum volunteers in your region
- very busy alum volunteer(s) who yet has to contact you.

I know there are two people who applied for Princeton. They are at the same high school and applied for at the same time. One was interviewed ten days ago, while another has not be contacted. How do you explain this? It means selection or not.

Getting an interview or not receiving one does not affect the admissions process. Applicant names are sent to local alumni committee heads, who in turn send them to local alumni volunteers. If there are not enough volunteers, then some people will not get interviews. Even if your name is sent to a volunteer, he/she could have an emergency come up and not be able to interview, or they could take significantly longer than another volunteer to schedule the interview. The interviews are not done on a school basis and thus, you can have one kid in a school get an interview and another not receive an interview. In the case of someone who did not receive an ED interview, but who received one in the RD process, it could mean that the area received additional alumni volunteers, or alumni volunteers had time to do additional interviews during the RD process.
