lol yea i mean i saw him... but i dont KNOW him. he is amazing i agree

Are you a human being?...

I wonder if it would help if an Asian put down East Asian Studies.

Really, a lot of world-class musicians come to Harvard because they didn't feel like going to a conservatory and just studying music.

I'm not familiar at all with Harvard's music dept, but I agree with the above statement :) I have a friend who fits the above description coming to Harvard in the fall.. he's amazing!

I know lots of people who study at new england conservatory, or with players in Boston Symphony Orchestra. It's true that Harvard's Music Department is mainly academic, but the chamber music classes are amazing. Robert Levin, who teaches the chamber music class Music180, is really awesome.

mytwocents: I'm going to be a rising sophomore at the College (are you as well?) I was wondering if you could tell me anything about the orchestra scene on campus. I want to get back into playing the violin (I hesitated for freshman year because I didn't want to get too overwhelmed), but I'm really hesitant to do so, considering the amazing-ness of our class and I hadn't been playing for about 2 years (e.g., my violin's strings are totally SHOT now). Any suggestions?

i was gonna say sorry ur an asian male but then since it looks so good DUH u'll make harvard

thelittleone,wow,that's....("awesome" won't do. neither does "incredible" look precise enough...)
if someone like you couldn't make it,who the hell could?!
you said you are in PA,right?
so are you applying as an international student,or are you an american citizen?
hehe, just wanna make sure i won't have to compete with you~
seems like you are a chinese? i'm from china~
glad to know about you~

Harvard has a very vibrant orchestra scene. There must be a half dozen or so -- Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, Harvard Pops, Gilbert and Sullivan Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and more.... There is something for everyone who is interested.

coureur- i always wondered...what can pianists do on campus other than chamber music...are there like concerto competitions and concerts featuring student soloists?

yes you definitely have a good shot, esp EA.

OP - Who are you? I went to PGSHC, too. lol

in defense of thelittleone:

disclaimer: my "what are my chances" thread was similar, although i'm not quite as accomplished as thelittleone - people told me that i didn't need to ask what my chances were because my stats were apparently good.

regardless, the fact that harvard admissions are cast as insurmountably onerous by most people make it nigh impossible for most high school students to accurately gauge where they stand. just because some people have achieved more doesn't mean that they're not entitled to advice.

LOL. What an entertaining thread.

The OP is, like everyone else who posts chances threads, looking for reassurance that no one on these boards can give. Whether the OP has confidence in his own chances (as cowsprite suggest he certainly does), dosen't make any difference at all. Anyone can feel insecure - if the OP constantly compares himself with people like Michael Viscardi, I'm sure you can imagine why he's posting this.

With regards to showing off under the pretense of insecurity, I don't see how anyone (especially one with the OP's gifts) can possibly think that impressing people on an anonymous online forum is going to yield dividends for one's future.

How do you find time doing all these stuff!?!

There is a piano society - I'm not sure what they do. There are also concerto competitions. There are courses that have a performance component. And many of the orchestras keep a pianist or two on tap - to play the harp parts if nothing else. I know that Harvard Pops does.

lol. um...sorry.

haha timepiece do you know michael viscardi?

hey, the next issue of Imagine (the cty magazine, not the newsletter) is supposedly on medicine/health... are you going to write anything? I think that if the editors haven't asked you already, you should contact them and offer to write something on all that neuroscience research that you've done.
lol, this may sound like advertising or whatever, (sorry, didn't mean for it to) but just as a another CTYer, I'd be interested in hearing more about that.

hahaha thanks juniorinhs! i actually will be writing an article on the alzheimer's research for imagine i just talked to the editor last week. lol

Are you applying as an international?? Music looks real impressive!!!

you're a complete *******. That's what I think.

REJECT REJECT.
