Because CC doesn't have nearly enough Asian American chance threads...

If anybody here is bored enough to chance another semi-asian, it would be much appreciated! Thanks :D

The List:
MIT (Super "i'll get in when pigs fly" reach)
Princeton (Likewise)
Cornell
Carnegie mellon
Georgia Tech
University of Florida (Safety [I'm instate here...])
U Alabama

The Stats

SAT: Round II **2240/b Round I: 1970 (CR 660, M 660, W 650) <--I'm very happy and college-minded today, I brought my score up 270! (to other college seekers, please do study for the SAT the first time you take it, and put forth a serious effort. It goes a long way!)
ACT: 30 (not submitting)
Subject Tests: Still yet to take, sadly, but I'm in the 750-800 range on practice tests (Physics and Math II)!
GPA: **UW. 3.98, W. 4.43/b
Race: Mixed (Asian American, Greek, Canadian)

Course load
11th
AP Physics C Mech; Honors Calculus with Precalculus; Honors US History; Honors English III; AP Eng. Lang; Spanish III
12th
AP Physics C E&M; AP Calc BC; Yearbook; American Gov/Economics; Spanish IV; Senior Thesis(On the metaphysics of Leibniz and Newton)/Philosophy; AP Eng. Lit
(I'm taking the maximum AP courses offered by my school)

EC's. (For brevity's sake, I'll only include the big ones... all other standard clubs like NHS and Mu Alpha Theta I am simply a member..)
· Vice-President Student Government (12)
· The MATE ROV (Submersible remotely controlled robot) Competition (This is a BIG one. I've spent over 700 hours as the lead electrical engineer for our group of 6 independently led high school students. I've built circuits that teachers told me I should buy premade, and I've invested hundreds more hours studying and exploring Electrical Engineering to do so). "
^We've won second and third place at our state competition (second against UNF!), and we will try one last time this year.
· Robotics Club: I founded a robotics club at my school, and I instruct weekly meetings. We will be exploring basics in mechanical and electrical engineering.
· Volunteering: I volunteer at a local organization for inner city children. I am the one of the managers of a breakfast program that feeds 400 children every week. I have accumulated over 300 hours volunteering weekly there.
· Cello: I've been playing for over 12 years, and I've been in a bunch of orchestras and won several awards. I also teach an adult student once a week.
· Martial Arts: I'm a black belt and an assistant instructor. When the dojang was in business (grades 7-11), I taught weekly children classes by myself. .

Awards:
· insert fancy name here. I'm gunna keep the name of the award off to preserve anonymity, but I won the leadership/citizenship/service award at my school in 11th, which is the highest award given out by my school.
· A myriad of academic "school sponsored" science/english/math awards.
· The MATE ROV Regionals winner: Second place (10), Third (11), First in Poster category (11).
· National Merit Program Recognition, pending further results (PSAT 212; Florida cutoff 2011: 210)

So what'dya say? From a subjective and completely inconsequential point of view, what kind of chance do I have at the schools listed above? Thanks so much for your help :D.

If you got your SAT to at least 2200+, you’d actually have a chance at your reaches because the rest looks good.

Thanks for the chance. I actually got a 2240 (740, 760M, 740)on my second try; I guess my post was just confusing.

Anybody else have opinions? How high do those pigs have to be flying to have a legitimate chance at Pton (SCEA, probably) or MIT?

CM, GT, UA, UF - in

Cornell - chances are good
MIT - chances pretty slim, but go for it
Princeton - extremely slim, but why not try?

Good luck :)

What will be your major?

Your 700 hour project needs to appeal to MIT for you to make it since everything else “whatever” material for a half asian (black belt is kind of cool).

Thanks Chrome16!

Texaspg,

I’m planning on entering into electrical engineering, as that is what I’ve done on our ROV team (and I really love it).

Thanks for your advice. I’ll try to do that; any suggestions in particular? I’m definitely going to try to emphasize it in the MIT essays (as I did on the common app essay for other schools).

If you were doing research, they normally ask for input from your research advisor. Did you work with anyone outside of school? I can’t imagine teachers at school knowing much electrical engineering to help you with circuits or assess your work.

Here is what i see in MIT application pertaining to what you did. so you may want to set up a website if you have nt already done so.

Inventions/Robots/Etc.: If you have blogs, videos, websites or pictures about things you have built or created including robots, inventions, etc., please share the url with us below:

You also have a section 9 in part 2 (anything you want to talk about section) where you can talk about it.

Texaspg,

I actually didn’t work with many people outside of school. I relied mainly on textbooks and online lectures on youtube, textbooks, and my history teacher who was an electrical engineer in the navy. So, sadly, I don’t’ think I can play that card.

Thanks for your input. We have a blog set up on which I post all of my circuit designs and such, as well as other team developments, so I think that shall work quite nicely :D. Thanks again for your help!

Does anybody else, perchance (see what I did there?), feel compelled to waste a few minutes to chance? Thanks all! :D
