Analytical Writing Placement Examinations requirement confusion

one of the requirement was 30 or higher on the combined ACT english/writing test.
does that mean the subscore of those two tests added together or the average of the two?
i called there customer service and the guy said he "think" it is...***?
and UCSB got my official ACT scores already...

I have this question to, but I received a 3 on the ap English language test. Does that mean I do not have to take the test?

**@Frankie51: **Getting a 3 on any AP English Lang test gets you past the Entry Level Writing Requirement, and you’re not allowed to take Writing 1, 1E, or 1K for credit at UCSB.

(AP’s apply to all versions of Academic Requirements)

**@whifang: **Wish I could help, but I don’t know enough about the ACT to make an educated answer.
Maybe this will assist you…

“The Combined English/Writing score is then reported on a 1–36 scale.”

I would assume the above link to the scale scores table is the score that you look at to see if you meet UCSB’s requirements.

I definitely have to take this, but I was waitlisted and if I don’t get in I’ll be going to a CSU. Should I sign up to take it anyway or could I take it at a later date because I was waitlisted?

@AlamedaAndre: By “this” i assume you mean you have to take the placement exam. To which, I offer you this information.

You still should be able to take the test after you’re “un-waitlisted” (hope you get accepted), at the second date (September 24th). I suggest you take it during then.

Just to add, College of Engineering and College of Letters & Science have different writing courses
