What's the inside scoop (or outside even) of the candidates for Choate's new headmaster? Anyone know? Headmaster Shanahan is stepping down (previously held a position at Dartmouth College) after this next 2010-2011 academic year and a search was begun this Spring. Rumor has it that someone from Andover is the favorite right now destined to come in and take over the reigns. Can anyone corroborate? In my experience rumor is usu 90% factual.

SPS is looking for a new head of school as well. Same timeframe. My guess is there’s going to be a lot of shuffling among boarding school administrators over then next 2 years. Should be interesting…

Any other current or looming head searches?

Not sure, but in the recent Choate newsletter (5/14), there’s an article on the top 3 things the school is looking for in a headmaster and “community” is one of them. Choate is a fairly good size, only slightly smaller than PEA and PA in terms of school size and on CC and other places, one of the things cited as missing was a sense of community. I wonder if the “large diverse school with neighborhoods” model of Andover is what they have in mind for replication at Choate.

I have a daughter gearing up to apply to BS and then another after that. Would be interested to know what SPS is looking for in their new leader as well.

someone close to me is involved with the search
and i think they are looking for someone to bring the community together as one, not like andover, for example.

LOL isn’t it easier not to be like something than to be like something?
