Andover Chances??

I am a white female applying to for 9th grade (8th grade now.) I play travel basketball, lacrosse, and rowing. for arts I do drama (but only at school) and violin.

my courses are all advanced, but for the first term (which is the only one that counts for the application) i got a B+ in science and a B- in math. My other courses I got an A- in history and french (been taking for 3 years now) and an A+ in english.

My SSATs were mixed:
Verbal: 76% <<--- yeah i know, does not look good
Math: 96% <<--- way better than i expected
Reading:91%
Overall: 92%

interview= went well i think, but i might have seemed a bit nervous

teacher recommendations= my english teacher might have have given me a good one because i got an A+ in her class, but i don't think she really knows my name yet (i know kind of sad right, but there are 27 kids in my class and a lot of them are really obnoxious.)

for math i did get a B- in her class, and i don't really think she likes me that much.

all in all, a very weird application because my ssat scores were opposite from my grades, but i am very scared. please chance me.

I appreciate your time! Thank you!

Your first term is not the only one that counts for an application. Andover will see your grades from the past three years.

As for your grades, they're not great, but if you are in all advanced classes as you say you are, Andover might overlook that. However, judging by the fact that you say you have 27 other [obnoxious] kids in your English class, that leads me to believe you go to a not-so-great public school. That doesn't make it possible to get in, but if it makes Andover think that your school is rife with grade inflation, they won't be so keen on letting you in.

Anyway, it's just two days really, so you'll find out soon. Best of luck!

actually, luckily i did get in. and my public school is actually in one of the best in the state, but still everyone is so loud. thanks though for your insight.

Congratulation!
I wish I would be lucky too…next year.

Well you’re taking advanced courses and even though you got those B’s, Andover is going to like that you didn’t just take the option of getting easy A’s in simpler courses. You might get in but I honestly think you’re probably going to get waitlisted. Could you pleas post whether you get in or not when you find out? Best of luck!

Oh wow I didn’t see your post that you got in. Sorry. Good job!

OK also applying for ninth. I am a member of American Mensa which is a high IQ society. I also am on my schools tennis, track, and cross country teams. For seventh grade I was in freshman honors math and freshman honors Spanish and English buy normal social studies and science. I won the local spelling bee and went to nationals. For eighth grade I was in sophomore honors Spanish,English, and math and freshman honors social studies, science, and orchestra. Straight as. But here’s the thing. In sixth grade I got a-s in two quarters in math and a b in math and b+ in social studies third quarter. Every other subject I got as and a+ and also for fourth quarter. I’m also class president. Think Ill get in?
