So in the prompt, they say 500 words or fewer. But the character limit is 6500, which is way more than 500 words. What should I do?

Follow the word limit, the character count is a safety in case you decide to make your whole essay out of excessively long words…And also you seemed confused by the difference between ‘word’ count and ‘character’ count… Character count will be higher than word count… Character count is the letter+space count… and word count is the words…

@atria Yes I know but 4500 characters for 500 words equals a whopping 9 characters per word, which is pretty much impossible.
@Personof2017 But there are spaces, punctuation marks etc. as well.
so i emailed one of the AOs with this question, and got:
"We prefer the essay to be as close to the requested word range and not the character range that is allowed, as some words contain more characters than others. If you are over by a few words, that would not be a problem. "
