hello everyone!! congrats on the acceptances!!!

i got accepted to both andover and exeter, as well as hotchkiss and lawrenceville. my mother and i are looking endlessly through articles/stats/etc to get a better feel for each school, so that i can be more notified during revisit day. However i am also interested in your opinions.

which one is better, and why do you think so?

There is no “better” between the two. The fact is, you are not faced with a right choice and a wrong choice, you are faced with two right choices. Some kids may feel more comfortable at one or the other for identifiable or completely intangible reasons (and if you get a chance to revisit, you might have a clear feeling one way or the other). Or there may be other things that draw you to one or other – you loved the water polo coach at Exeter, or the Art Gallery at Andover – whatever grabbed you. The opportunities at both are unmatched, and I’m sure that you will thrive at either one. You will likely get lots of opinions – listen to them, but in the end, trust your intuition and remember that you really cannot go wrong.

(p.s. as an Exeter alum, I think Exeter is the clear choice. It’s the best. But this is precisely the type of opinion that you don’t need!)

All four are wonderful institutions. Congratulations on all your acceptances. The question is not “which one is better” but “which one is a better fit for YOU.” Your revisit days will be important in making that determination. Trust your gut feeling as you walk around the campuses. Sometimes it’s not what you read on websites or discussion forums like this one, but the “feel” of an institution when you visit it in person after getting in.

i strongly suggest revisit days. each school has a different atmosphere and has little different details that appeal to different people. you’ll see them on revisit day - make sure to make little lists of the things that you loved and hated about each school and try to determine where you could see yourself for the next few years.

Hey, I’m applying to Andover and Exeter this year, but I was wondering what you got for your SSAT. Did you get a good teacher recommendation and have a good interview?
