Andover

Andover Summer Sesssion - What do you guys know about it? I live right by Andover. I dont think this helps very much with admissions to college, but some of their courses would be very beneficial. SAT Prep, Prep for AP classes, and just a bunch of very interesting classes. Also, trips to colleges and workshops, etc. Anyway...discuss.

A lot of internationals go to summer session. A lot of Europeans, a lot of Japanese from Doshisha, stuff like that. The courses are all taught by Andover faculty so they are guaranteed to be at least quite decent. You won't see a lot of current Andover students there however, unless they are new, because in all honesty we get enough of the campus during the year.

I went last year. The classes are really interesting, and the college visits/workshops were really well organized and quite useful, especially since it would have been difficult for me to visit on my own.

Not all of the courses are taught by Andover faculty, but as far as I know, the teaching staff is competent and well-informed.

In addition to the interesting/worthwhile courses, the Session itself is a lot of fun.

agreed with above - its a great program. Not all the faculty are from Andover (I had one who was a Yale prof) but they are definitely competant. I think it being about 1/3 international really adds to the experience , as do the field trips to colleges.

I took a class in a somewhat random field, in which my high school didn't offer any courses, and now it's my major. Since it is a rare major, having some experience (and doing well in the class) probably helped me, since colleges knew i was legitamately interested in it, not just putting it down for a possible admissions boost.

So anyway, it is a great, fun way to spend your summer, and also allows you to take classes you might be interested in but can't take during the regular school year, or to get ahead in your hs studies.
