Andover's 15th Head of School: John G. Palfrey, Jr.

And would you believe it, he's an Exeter grad!

From Andover's email to the Phillips Academy community, subject line "Andover's 15th Head of School":

To the Andover Community,

We are delighted to announce that the Trustees have appointed John G. Palfrey, Jr. as Phillips Academy’s 15th Head of School.

I wish they had chosen someone with a Secondary School Education background. How will a lawyer add value to a High School? Looks like a missed opportunity though I’m happy that an Exeter grad is leading Andover. I hope he can bridge the gap between Exeter and Andover.

Not to be rude or anything, but I think the search committee’s judgment, arrived at over a year-long period and after consideration of over 300 candidates, has a little more value than yours, John.

Edit: the full contents of the email can be read at http://www.andover.edu/HOS_Search/Pages/default.aspx

Boom, baby.

TomTheCat, I seriously hope they got it right even though to err is human.

Wow, I’d definitely card him in a bar! He looks like a kid. As i write this, it occurs to me that maybe I’m just too old.

:) I like what I’ve read about him. Hope he will make a difference to this already hugely successful school, for better.

If it is hugely successful, why do you need to make it better? If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.

But this is not a fix-it situation… Regardless, I might’ve something you are trying to say here? So you don’t think this school is very successful? How so?

Exactly the complacent attitude that I’d hope a school like Exeter would beat out of you. I’m sure people said exactly the same thing about the Ford Model T, the cassette player, and the first iPod. Improvement is always possible.

Would you perform surgery on a healthy, thriving person hoping it will make him/her better?

No, but that person might consider a daily workout regime, healthy eating, and a hobby like reading for self-improvement’s sake.

Tom you’re good. Were you on the debate team? :)

Here’s another piece of news about the new head of school at Andover.

And, I am not alone in thinking a successful school can be made better.
